Finally got around to posting up my fight video from 3 weeks ago on my blog. Initially seeing the video made me realize how exhausted I really was because of how distorted my perception of events turned out to be. Watching the video a few more times, I was really impressed with my clinch work. I need to be more aggressive with my knees if I keep reaching for clinch all the time. Otherwise I need to work on sitting inside punching ranging and going lick for lick.
I didn't feel like my conditioning was where it had been for my May fight, but also the extra 10 lbs I cut probably didn't help my endurance. I think my punching technique has improved, as I'm not swinging for the fences the entire fight like I was in my first fight. Round 3 was the only exception... and at that point i was just fighting to survive. My situational awareness is going up as I could actually hear and listen to what Chris and Mike were screaming at me. Only thing is I nead to learn to pace myself properly and feel out my opponent a little bit more. I think I'm past the point where simply overwhelming the opponent with strikes is a valid strategy... Actually it was probably not the best strategy for either of my first fights, but it did help me win both fights on counts of aggression.
As for what's next. I'm back to training again. I'm on the fight card for Combat Sports Challenge 29 on August 22 in Richmond. I don't know my opponent yet, but hopefully I will soon. It should be a good fight to get some experience because after that, my next tournament will be the WKA World Championships in Huelva, Spain from October 29-Nov 3. I'm pretty excited to be competing for a world title... even if it is one that I don't have to defend... Its looking like I'll have 3 teammates competing with me, so the trip will be a blast. I'll do my best to keep everyone posted on details.
